Florida firm recalls cinnamon due to elevated levels of lead

El Chilar Rodriguez LLC of Apopka, FL, has recalled over 1,500 bags of El Chilar Ground Cinnamon "Canela Molida" sold in 1.25-ounce bags due to potential lead contamination. Distributed by La Raza LLC of Forestville, MD, within Maryland, the product bears lot codes D300 EX1024 and F272 EX1026, visible on the packaging.

This recall stems from the Maryland Department of Health's discovery of elevated lead levels in product samples, possibly linked to adulterated raw materials from the supplier. Consumers with the specified lot codes are advised to discontinue use and return the product for a full refund. Parents and caregivers should seek medical attention for children exposed to lead.

Aligned with the FDA's initiative to reduce childhood lead exposure, the recall aims to prevent these products from contributing to elevated lead intake in children's diets.
