BSV and FOGSI collaborate to bring India’s first colposcopy workshop to Tier 2 cities

Bharat Serums and Vaccines Limited (BSV), a leading biopharmaceutical company, partnered with the Public Awareness Committee of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) to promote awareness and access to colposcopy. This diagnostic method allows detailed examination of the cervix, vagina, and vulva, aiding in the early detection of precancerous changes and cervical cancer. The first colposcopy workshop, led by Dr. Priya Ganeshkumar at New Ramakrishna Sevasadan Hospital in Siliguri, aimed to educate gynaecologists and specialists on its importance.

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among Indian women aged 15 to 44, with 1,23,907 new cases and 77,348 deaths annually. Access to colposcopy, crucial for early detection and accurate diagnosis, remains limited, especially in Tier 2, rural, and underserved areas.

Colposcopy facilitates early detection, precise diagnosis after abnormal Pap smear results, and preventive care by detecting and treating precancerous conditions, thereby reducing cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates.
