Additional products recalled in association with deadly outbreak of Listeria infections

The FDA has been notified of additional companies to recall products linked to the Rizo-Lopez Foods Inc. dairy recall.

Rizo-Lopez cheese has been linked to a fatal, decade-long outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections. To date, 26 patients have been identified with 23 having hospitalization and two deaths.

The outbreak strain of Listeria was detected in a specimen of Rizo-Lopez cheese and at the manufacturing plant. The Modesto, CA, plant has been shut, but multiple companies used cheese and other dairy products from the factory in their products.

Rizo-Lopez recalled sixty one of its products. Secondary recalls include products sold at Trader Joe’s, Costco, Walmart, Whole Foods, HEB, Safeway and Albertson’s stores.

Additional recalls are possible due to the wide use of the Rizo-Lopez products.
